Eagles Hold Off Huskies for 3-2 Home Victory

NEWTON, Mass. – Senior striker Stefan Sigurdarson registered a brace for the second straight match and Boston College held off Northeastern for a 3-2 victory at home on Monday night at the Newton Soccer Complex.
The Eagles improved to 2-0 on the season, while the Huskies dropped to 0-1-1. BC pushed its all-time record against NU to 14-1-1 and remained undefeated in the series at home (9-0-1).
In the 35th minute, Adrian Zenko's cross was deflected by a Northeastern defender and Sigurdarson one-timed a volley to the goalkeeper's right from the middle of the NU box.
The Icelandic striker doubled the lead less than two minutes into the second half after a Tyshawn Rose cross hit Ahria Simons in the right hand. Sigurdarson powered his left-footed penalty into the bottom right corner to make it 2-0.
Co-captain Amos Shapiro-Thompson added a third BC goal in the 63rd minute following a misplay from NU keeper Colby Hegarty near the right post.
Tobias Wangerud drew a goal back for the Huskies on a penalty kick in the 74th minute, and Sebastian Restrep converted another penalty in the 80th.
Boston College hits the road on Saturday afternoon to face UMass at 1 p.m. in Amherst.
