Eagles recognized for the 12th consecutive year as one of the top academic programs in America
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Denis Gallagher and the Eagles' men's track & field team were honored by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for their academic success during the 2022 seasons.
Gallagher was named to the 2022 USTFCCCA Men's All-Academic team. A neuroscience major, Gallagher set a new Boston College record in the 800m this past February. The sophomore clocked a 1:49.53 at the David Hemery Valentine Invite, breaking the 46-year BC standard and thus becoming the first Eagle to go sub-1:50 indoors.
To qualify for this prestigious honor, athletes must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and must have completed at least two (2) semesters or three (3) quarters at the nominating institution. Additionally, an athlete must have finished the indoor track season ranked in the top 96 in any championship individual event, or in the top 48 in any championship relay event, or must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The Eagles also shined in the classroom, being honored as a 2022 USTFCCCA All-Academic team. Posting a cumulative 3.40 grade-point average, head coach Matt Kerr's team has been recognized by the USTFCCCA for 12 consecutive years. To be eligible, teams must record a cumulative grade-point average of 3.0 or better.
