Alex Newhook Adds Boston College's 21st Name to Stanley Cup

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Former Boston College forward Alex Newhook added Boston College's 21st name to the Stanley Cup on Sunday night as the Colorado Avalanche defeated the two-time defending champion Tampa Bay Lightning 2-1 in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final at Amalie Arena in Tampa.
A native of St. John's, Newfoundland, Newhook became the 13th different former Eagle to hoist the Cup and the fourth since 2016. The 21-year-old posted 33 points this season on 13 goals and 20 assists in 71 regular season games. He added four assists in 11 playoff games during Colorado's Stanley Cup run.Â
During his two years on the Heights, Newhook registered 26 goals and 32 assists for 58 points in 46 NCAA games. He became the first Eagle to win the Tim Taylor Award as the Division I Rookie of the Year and the ninth player in program history to be named Hockey East Rookie of the Year.Â
Newhook was a first round pick of the Avalanche with the 16th overall selection in the 2019 NHL Draft. Classmates Matt Boldy (12th) and Spencer Knight (13th) were also selected in the first round that year.Â
Avalanche scout Neil Shea '86 also became a Stanley Cup champion on Sunday.Â
