Lacrosse Hosts Syracuse in Red Bandanna Game

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Boston College lacrosse welcomes No. 4 Syracuse on Friday at 6 p.m. inside Alumni Stadium in a rematch of last season's national championship. Friday's contest is also the annual Red Bandanna Game in honor of Welles Crowther.Â

Phoebe Day is receiving the No. 19 jersey for the game, given to the student-athlete that most embodies the values of Welles Crowther. Day is the 10th recipient of the No. 19 Jersey, honoring Wells. For three years at The Heights, Day has embodied the heart of Welles Crowther's character and will continue to demonstrate acts of courage, bravery, selflessness and strength now, and well into, her future.

Last Time Out
The Eagles fought back from a six-goal deficit in the second half to tie things up, but fell 16-15 in the final 1:30 of the contest. Belle Smith turned in a career day, as she totaled a personal-high nine points with three goals and a career-high six assists. Jenn Medjid totaled six points with a hat trick and three assists. Hollie Schleicher led the team with seven draw controls and a career-high four caused turnovers. Kayla Martello tied her personal best with four goals, with three of her scores coming in the fourth period. Martello fired in the final two goals for the Eagles when they were down 15-13 in the fourth quarter with under three minutes to go into the game. BC came back from a six-goal deficit thanks to an 8-2 run while trailing 13-7.Â
A Win Would
- Give BC a 14-2 mark and a 6-2 ACC record to end the regular season.Â
- Give the Eagles the third seed going into the ACC Tournament.

Two of the Top 25Â
On Thursday, Smith and North were two of the top 25 women's nominees for the Tewaaraton award, given to the nation's top collegiate lacrosse player. North has a team-high 65 goals, 98 draw controls and 78 points, while she is first in the ACC and fourth in the nation in goals. Smith is having another stellar season, as she is the only player on the team with at least 30 goals and 20 assists. She is third on the team in points as well with 54.Â
The Storylines
-Â Friday's matchup will feature a plethora of storylines between the two foes.
-Â The showdown between the Eagles and Orange is a rematch of last season's national championship, which went in BC's favor for its first title.
-Â Syracuse's first-year head coach, Kayla Treanor, who was an assistant on the BC staff from 2017-2021, helping the Eagles advance to the national championship in three seasons and claimed the championship in 2021.
- Kenzie Kent is also on the Syracuse staff as an assistant. Kent is the daughter of Jen Kent, an assistant on the BC staff.
-Â Kent starred for both women's lacrosse and women's hockey at Boston College. She helped women's hockey to three Frozen Fours and led BC to a pair of national title appearances in lacrosse.Â
Scouting Syracuse (13-3, 6-1 ACC)
- The Orange are coming off an 18-11 triumph over Albany in their most recent outing on Tuesday.Emily Hawryschuk led the way with four goals. She was one of three players with a hat trick.
- Syracuse is 4-2 on the road this season wit its losses coming against then-No. 13 Florida and then-No. 6 Northwestern.
- Meaghan Tyrrell has a team-high 59 goals, and is one of two players on the team with at least 50 goals. Emily Hawryshuk is second on the team with 53.
- Tyrrell also leads the team with 88 points, as her 29 assists are a team best.
-Â Kimber Hower has started in 11 of 16 games, while Delaney Sweitzer has started in five contests between the posts.
-Â Hower leads the team with a .385 save percentage, while she has 84 saves and a 11.25 goals-against average.
-Â 'Cuse is seventh in the nation in scoring (16.8 goals) and shot percentage at .497.Â
