Eagles Fall Short in Comeback at Duke

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The Boston College lacrosse team put forth a valiant effort coming back from a six-goal deficit to tie up the game in the fourth, but fell to No. 7 Duke on Saturday afternoon, 16-15.Â
The Eagles fall to 13-2 and 5-2 in the ACC, while the Blue Devils improve to 15-1 and 6-1 in the league.Â
Belle Smith turned in a career day, as she totaled a personal-high nine points with three goals and a career-high six assists. Jenn Medjid totaled six points with a hat trick and three assists.Â
Hollie Schleicher led the team with seven draw controls and a career-high four caused turnovers.Â
Kayla Martello tied her personal best with four goals, with three of her scores coming in the fourth period. Martello fired in the final two goals for the Eagles when they were down 15-13 in the fourth quarter with under three minutes to go into the game. BC came back from a six-goal deficit thanks to an 8-2 run while trailing 13-7.Â
Duke's Maddie Jenner found the back of the net for the final score of the game to give the Blue Devils the win.Â
Charlotte North and Mckenna Davis scored two goals apiece during a 4-1 stretch before Martello and Smith scored on back-to-back opportunities. Duke responded by scoring a goal of its own to claim a 15-13, setting up an exciting finish in Durham.Â
Smith and Cassidy Weeks scored on consecutive possessions to tie up the game in the first quarter after Duke claimed a 2-0 lead. The Blue Devils scored four of the final five goals to go into the second period with a 6-3 edge.Â
