Labshere walks it off in game one comeback
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Senior infielder Kennedy Labshere hit a walk off single up the middle in the bottom of the eight inning to give the Eagles their ninth win of the season over Maryland on Saturday afternoon.Â
Peyton Schnackenberg got the start for BC and went four innings, allowing just two runs on five hits while striking out three. Freshman Abby Dunning picked up her second win of the season, twirling four scoreless innings of relief and striking out four.Â
Offensively, BC had ten hits against Maryland's pitching. Four Eagles had a multi-hit game. Abigail Knighthad three singles, Nicole Giery had a double and a single, Ellie Mataya and Labshere had two singles apiece.
Elisabeth Laviolette got the Eagles on the board with a pinch-hit RBI double in the bottom of the fifth. Djhane Valido drove in the game-tying run in the sixth to force extra innings and set up Labshere for the walk off winner over the Terps.
In game two, Susannah Anderson kept the Charlotte offense quiet until the third inning, when the 49ers pushed across two runs, doing so again in the fourth inning. Anderson's record drops to 2-3 on the season.Â
Despite only scoring one run, the BC bats were very much alive, as the Eagles tallied nine hits. Mataya had another multi-hit game, finishing with three hits including a double. Giery finished 2-3 with a double. Knight, Laviolette, Darien McDonough, and Djhane Valido each picked up a base knock.
Boston College is back in action tomorrow morning with their final two games of the Green & Gold Classic. The Eagles will be the home team against Villanova at 9:30 a.m., followed by a rematch with host-Charlotte approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.Â
