BC Splits Doubleheader with Win Over Villanova, Loss to Charlotte

Dunning strikes out eight, Anderson shuts the door in win
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – BC softball took down Villanova in a tight 4-3 ballgame on Sunday morning.
Abby Dunning started the day in the circle for the Eagles and tied her season-high of eight strikeouts in 4.2 innings of work. Susannah Anderson came in to relieve Dunning in the fifth and shut down the Wildcats' bats in her 2.1 innings, allowing just two hits and striking out two while picking up the win.Â
On offense, freshman Darien McDonough collected three hits, including a solo shot in the first inning. Gianna Sarlo and Hannah Slike each picked up two hits, with Sarlo getting her first RBI of the year on a double in the fourth inning.
BC took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth when Slike reached on an error to score Kennedy Labshere.
In game two of the doubleheader against Charlotte, Peyton Schnackenberg struck out six in her six innings in the circle. She was handed her first loss of the season by the 49ers', dropping to 4-1.
The BC offense was led by Slike with two hits, and doubles by Nicole Giery, Djhane Valido, and Kamryn Warman. Warman's double brought in her first RBI of the season in the seventh inning.
Boston College (10-7) is back in action Tuesday as they travel to UNC Greensboro (12-6) for a midweek matchup with the Spartans. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. The game will be streamed on ESPN+.
