March 05, 2022 | Lacrosse
LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Boston College lacrosse team captured a convincing 19-10 win over Louisville on Saturday afternoon at the UofL Lacrosse Stadium.Â
The Eagles are 6-0 to the season and 2-0 in the ACC for the first time since 2019. They snap Louisville's four-game win streak and hand the Cardinals their first setback at home.Â
Belle Smith had a stellar day, turning in a career-high eight points thanks to five goals and a personal-high three assists. She was one of three Eagles with hat tricks, as Jenn Medjid scored four times and Kayla Martello added three.Â
Nine different players scored at least one goal, with 12 of the goals assisted on. Caitlynn Mossman didn't score but delivered a team-high four helpers.Â
Louisville held a 2-1 lead in the first 1:02 of the contest, but after Charlotte North's only goal of the contest, it was all Eagles.
Three straight scores by Mallory Hasselbeck, Hunter Roman and Medjid over the next eight minutes gave BC a 5-2 lead before UofL scored with 32 seconds left in the first period.Â
BC gained separation in the second quarter when Martello and Smith teamed up for seven of the team's nine goals. Medjid scored the other two, helping the Eagles outscore Louisville, 9-2, in the frame and head into the half with a 14-5 cushion.Â
Cassidy Weeks scored 17 seconds into the second half, which pushed the lead to double digits. Kit Arrix and Annabelle Hasselbeck each scored in the second half, while BC never trailed by no less than eight goals en route to an eighth straight win in the series.Â
Defensively, BC caused 10 turnovers and earned 18 draw controls against a Louisville team that came in averaging 18 goals during its win streak. Rachel Hall recorded six saves between the posts.Â
BC will head on the road next to face a ranked Denver opponent on Wednesday at 6 p.m. EST.Â
