Weekend Recap: Eagles Upset #2 Seminoles
March 20, 2022 | Softball
Schnackenberg’s complete game shutout boosts BC in game two of series
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Senior pitcher Peyton Schnackenberg (6-1) twirled an eight inning, complete game, one-hit, shutout to help Boston College upset #2 Florida State in game one of a double header on Sunday. The win marks the first time BC has beaten FSU since 2018, and just the third time they have defeated the Seminoles since 2008.
Schnackenberg was masterful, allowing only four base runners while striking out five in her eight innings of work. The only hit she surrendered came in the sixth inning on a ground ball that ricocheted off her leg and into the outfield.
Neither team scored until Kristin Giery hit a pinch-hit single in the top of the eighth to score Maddy Carpe. Fellow senior Ellie Mataya followed up with a single of her own to score Gianna Sarlo for some insurance.
In game three of the series, and the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday, FSU answered back with a shutout of their own, winning 4-0. Walks and errors were the reason behind each of the four runs Abby Dunning allowed in the series rubbermatch. Nicole Giery, Abigail Knight, and Kennedy Labshere had the only hits for BC.
In the series opener on Saturday, Florida State took down BC 4-0. Susannah Anderson was dealt the loss. Walks plagued the Eagles and led to all four of the Seminoles' runs. Offensively, Djhane Valido picked up a pair of singles for the Eagles. Darien McDonough and Kamryn Warman each singled as well.
This week, the Eagles (13-11) head to Amherst on Wednesday for a midweek matchup with UMass (6-14). First pitch is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. BC's home opener at Harrington Athletics Village is Friday night, as they will begin a three game ACC series with Virginia (18-11).
