Three Homers Lead Eagles to Game One Win Over Tar Heels
March 12, 2022 | Softball
Eagles split ACC doubleheader, first win in Chapel Hill since 1989
CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Boston College's offensive attack in game one yesterday was powered by Kennedy Labshere, Hannah Slike, and Nicole Giery, who each hit solo home runs in the Eagles' 4-2 victory over UNC. The win marks the first time that BC has won at Anderson Stadium since 1989, and the first win over the Tar Heels since 2016.
Labshere picked up another RBI one inning after her homer on a single that scored Djhane Valido from second base. Slike's home run was the first of her career. Giery's blast tied Darien McDonough for the team lead with three. Labshere, Slike, and Giery each finished with two hits in game one, with Slike picking up a double.Â
Susannah Anderson (4-3) was lights out, going six scoreless innings before giving up a two-run homer in the bottom of the seventh. She allowed just two hits while striking out four in her complete game effort.
In game two, UNC jumped out to an early 2-0 lead. The score remained the same until Gianna Sarlo hit her second game-tying home run of the week in the top of the fifth inning. BC took the lead in the sixth on a fielder's choice off the bat of Giery, but UNC answered right back with three runs in the bottom frame.Â
Peyton Schnackenberg started in the circle for BC, going 4.2 innings, giving up one earned run, striking out two. Abby Dunning (2-4) relieved Schnackenberg in the fifth, going one inning and allowing two earned runs. Anderson made her second appearance of the day in the sixth, but the UNC hitters were ready for her the second time around.Â
The series rubber match will be played Sunday at noon on ACC Network. BC (12-8) will be looking for it's first series win ever over UNC (13-10).
