BC beats Austin Peay, falls to FGCU
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Boston College softball's late inning rally helped beat Austin Peay State 4-2 in the first game of a doubleheader on Friday afternoon. Both the Eagles and Governors are 4-3 after Friday's games.
Sophomore infielder Nicole Giery got the Eagles on the board with a bases loaded ground out in the top of the first. Junior Abigail Knight added to the lead with a sac fly to right two pitches later.
After the first inning, the Eagles were held scoreless until the top of the seventh, when freshman catcher Hannah Slike broke the tie game with an RBI double that scored Ellie Mataya. Slike's classmate, Darien McDonough, brought her home with a single on the very next pitch to give BC some insurance.
Senior pitcher Susannah Anderson earned her second win of the season, going the distance and only allowing two runs on 9 hits with a walk and a strikeout.Â
Mataya and McDonough finished with two hits apiece, while Slike finished with three.Â
In game two against FGCU, BC gave up five runs in the bottom of the first inning and was unable to recover. BC was run-ruled 8-0 in five innings.
Mataya and Slike each doubled. Sophomore Gianna Sarlo collected her first hit of the year in a pinch hit at bat during the 4th inning. Freshman pitcher Abby Dunning was handed the loss, her record falls to 1-2.
BC takes on Memphis and Belmont tomorrow in a doubleheader at the FGCU Softball Complex. Game one vs Memphis begins at 10 a.m., game two will begin at approximately 12:15.
