Eagles take down Memphis, lose tight battle to Belmont
FORT MYERS, Fla. – Senior pitcher Peyton Schnackenberg had a season-high seven strikeouts in a complete game effort as BC softball defeated the University of Memphis 7-2 in game one of a doubleheader at FGCU Softball Complex.
Abigail Knight got the scoring going for BC with an RBI triple in the top of the first. A few pitches later she scored on a wild pitch to make it 2-0 Eagles.Â
Junior shortstop Djhane Valido picked up her first RBI of the season with a single in the second. Senior center fielder Ellie Mataya doubled home two runs just two pitches later. The Eagles capped off their scoring in the seventh with an RBI double from freshman catcher Hannah Slike.
In game two, the Eagles' bats were kept quiet except for a two-run outburst in the top of the 5th inning when Slike doubled home a run, and Darien McDonough picked up an RBI on an infield single. Senior pitcher Susannah Anderson took the loss for BC.
The 5-3 Eagles will face Belmont again tomorrow morning for their final contest at the FGCU Softball Complex this season. First pitch is scheduled for 9 a.m.Â
