UConn Clinches Regular Season Series with 6-4 Victory at Conte
February 11, 2022 | Men's Hockey
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – UConn earned a 6-4 Hockey East victory over Boston College on Friday night at Kelley Rink in the rubber match of the three-game regular season series between the schools.Â
Â
The Huskies improved to 16-11-0 (12-6-0 HEA) while the Eagles dropped to 10-15-4 (5-10-3 HEA).
Â
Junior Liam Izyk posted his first two goals in a Boston College sweater, netting both in the first period, while senior Casey Carreau also scored a pair in the loss. Sophomore Colby Ambrosio assisted on both of Izyk's goals for a multi-point night.
Â
The schools combined for seven goals in a back-and-forth first period. Artem Schlaine capped off a 2-on-1 for the visitors just 1:21 into the contest, but Carreau answered with a blocker side finish on a cross-ice feed from rookie Jack Dempsey at 4:49.
Â
The teams traded goals once again, the latter coming off the stick of Izyk at the right post following a wraparound bid from Marshall Warren.
Â
Defenseman Jarrod Gourley netted a pair of goals at 12:56 and 14:12 to push UConn ahead 4-2, but Izyk completed a passing combination with Brandon Kruse and Ambrosio in the final minute to bring BC back within a goal.
Â
The Huskies extended their lead in the second period on partial breakaways finished by Carter Turnbull on his forehand around Eric Dop's left pad and Kevin O'Neil, who went backhand five-hole.
Â
Connecticut limited BC's opportunities in the third period to clinch the points, despite Carreau's second tally after a Connor Joyce tip with four and a half minutes remaining. Darion Hanson made seven of his 20 saves in the final frame for the Huskies.
Â
Boston College faces Harvard on Monday at TD Garden in the Beanpot consolation game at 4:30 p.m.
