
Five Eagles Named Inside Lacrosse Top 50 Returning Players

Four of Five Athletes Were Named All-Americans Last Season
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - Five Boston College lacrosse players were featured in the Inside Lacrosse Top 50 men's and women's returning players list for 2023.Â
The magazine revealed the list throughout the week, where Belle Smith (No. 4), Jenn Medjid (No. 11), Sydney Scales (No. 22), Hollie Schleicher (No. 34) and Kayla Martello (No. 41)Â represented the Eagles.Â
All five Eagles played pivotal roles in a 19-4 mark en route to a fifth straight national title appearance. BC leads the country with 102 wins since 2017.Â
Smith, one of the best two-way middies in the game, is coming off a stellar sophomore campaign, finishing third with a personal-high 55 goals, 28 assists, and 83 points. A unanimous first-team All-American and ACC selection, she was the only player in the league to post at least 55 goals, 25 assists, and 20 caused turnovers. She was the sixth-fastest player in school history to reach 100 points and played with Team USA in the Sixes Games and the USA Fall Classic roster.Â
Medjid is back for her fifth year after setting career bests in goals (74), assists (28) and points (102). She was a unanimous All-American, while she landed on the All-ACC First Team. Medjid ended the season on an impressive 53-game point streak dating back to 2019Â and enters 2023 sixth all-time in goals with 169 and eighth in points with 225.Â
Martello is coming off a breakout season in which she scored 45 goals with six assists and 51 points while she started all 23 games. The junior tallied at least one point in 13 straight games and recorded nine goals in the NCAA Tournament, including four against Loyola Maryland in the NCAA Tournament.Â
Schleicher is also coming off a solid season after she finished second on the team and sixth in the ACC with a personal-high 108 draw controls. She also tied a personal best with 33 ground balls and posted a career-high 21 caused turnovers. The Sag Harbor, N.Y., native was named to the All-ACC Second Team and earned Inside Lacrosse/IL Women All-American Third Team honors. She enters the year fifth all-time in school history with 218 draw controls.Â
Scales enters her junior campaign after being named an IWLCA Second-Team All-American. She started in all 22 appearances and tied for the team lead with a career-high 26 caused turnovers. Her personal-best 46 ground balls led the Eagles and was fourth in the ACC.
