November 05, 2022 | Men's Hockey
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Merrimack completed a home-and-home sweep of Boston College on Saturday afternoon with a 5-2 Hockey East victory at Kelley Rink.
The Eagles fell to 2-4-1 (2-3-0 HEA) while the Warriors moved to 6-3-0 (4-1-0 HEA).
Ben Brar gave the Warriors a 1-0 lead 4:33 into the contest, sneaking a wraparound through the five-hole of Mitch Benson at the right post.
Cutter Gauthier answered for the Eagles as he wristed a shot high glove side through a Nikita Nesterenko screen from the top of the right circle. Trevor Kuntar assisted on the power play tally at 15:21 of the first.
Merrimack quickly restored its lead less than two and a half minutes later when Mark Hillier converted his own rebound at the edge of the crease on the power play.
Boston College had a chance to knot the score with a 5-on-3 for 1:15 late in the second period, but Zachary Borgiel (27 saves) made key stops on Gauthier and Colby Ambrosio to preserve the one-goal lead.
The Warriors made it 3-1 with just 39 seconds left in the middle frame as Mike Brown's point shot deflected off a BC stick past Benson's glove at the right post.
Merrimack added goals from Alex Jeffries and Filip Forsmark in the third period to seal the win.
Andre Gasseau netted his first career goal on the power play in the closing minutes from Lukas Gustafsson and Oskar Jellvik.
Henry Wilder played the final nine minutes in net and posted six saves.
