No. 15 Northeastern Comes Back to Earn 4-4 Tie with Boston College
November 11, 2022 | Men's Hockey
BOSTON – No. 15 Northeastern came back from 4-1 down in the third period, tying the game in the final second of regulation, before winning a shootout over Boston College for an extra Hockey East point on Friday night at Matthews Arena.
The Eagles moved to 2-4-2 (2-3-1 HEA) following the official tie, their second against NU this season, while the Huskies pushed their record to 6-2-3 (5-2-2 HEA).
Cam Lund had a hat trick for Northeastern and scored the lone goal in the shootout to secure the extra league point.
Cutter Gauthier posted his first career multi-goal game and added an assist for a three-point performance. Trevor Kuntar registered a goal and an assist and Liam Izyk added a goal, while Lukas Gustafsson collected a pair of assists.
Lund gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead four minutes into the contest, nudging the puck under Mitch Benson's pads following a faceoff in the right wing circle.
Gauthier answered for the Eagles at the 7:40 mark on the power play. BC worked a triangle passing play into the slot for Kuntar whose attempt was kicked out by Devon Levi (38 saves), but the rebound came to Gauthier on the weak side and the rookie finished five-hole.
Boston College took its first lead with 1:04 left in the second period on another power play tally. Gauthier's right wing one-timer was blocked toward the right post and Kuntar stuffed his second attempt inside the far post from a weak angle.
Izyk extended the advantage to 3-1 less than five minutes into the third, following a shot from Christian O'Neill at the top of the crease to beat Levi. Cam Burke collected the second assist on the play.
Jakov Novak began the NU comeback with 8:36 left in regulation and Lund made it a one-goal game with 2:07 remaining.
Northeastern won an offensive zone faceoff with 4.3 seconds left to Aidan McDonough, who fanned before whipping a low shot on net. The puck trickled behind Benson and Lund took advantage with 0.6 seconds on the clock to tie the game.
BC scored at least one power play goal for the sixth consecutive game and netted multiple power play tallies for the second straight contest.
The Eagles out-shot the Huskies 40-36 on the night.
The schools close their home-and-home series at Kelley Rink on Saturday night on ESPN+ at 7 p.m.
