Eagles Grab Their Third Straight Win
November 04, 2022 | Volleyball
CHESTNUT HILL, MASS – Boston College defeated Virginia 3-2 on Friday afternoon, the Eagles won by scores of 25-19, 26-24, and 15-13. BC now improves to 17-10 on the season and 5-8 in the ACC while the Cavaliers drop to 11-13 overall and 3-10 in the conference.
In set one the Eagles looked to impose their will on their home court. The key sequences early for BC were 4-1 scoring runs to make it 17-15 after being down 14-13 and then a 7-2 scoring run to close it out fueled by important kills from Senior right side Izzy Clavenna (Dallas, Texas) and Senior outside hitter Silvia Ianeselli (Trento, Italy) and a nice service ace from Grad transfer middle blocker Kate Brennan (Endicott, N.Y).
After Virginia managed tie up the match 1-1 in set two you just knew set three was going to be back and forth down to the wire. And that it was, despite being down 24-22 late the Eagles rallied to win four straight points including an impressive set clinching kill from Kate Brennan.
The Cavaliers fought back to force a fifth and final set after barely squeaking by in set four, winning 25-23. In set five Boston College looked to be in control taking a 14-10 lead at the end but Virginia almost managed to force deuce at 14-14 but after a challenge by BC Head Coach Jason Kennedy on the final play, it would be ruled a net violation as the Eagles would clinch the set and the match.
For UVA, Grace Turner led the way with a game high 24 kills while for BC it was a trio of double digit kill games from Sophomore middle blocker Jenna Pollock (St. Catharines, Ont), Junior outside hitter Katrina Jensen (Temecula, Calif) and Silvia Ianeselli that helped carry the Eagles to a win. Junior setter Grace Penn (Manhattan Beach, Calif) also had a nice performance with 31 assists, seven digs and an ace.
Boston College will be back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m as they host the No. 7 ranked Pitt Panthers.
