BC Gets The Sweep to Closeout The Weekend
November 13, 2022 | Volleyball
Chestnut Hill, Mass – Boston College defeated Syracuse 3-0 on Sunday afternoon, the Eagles won by scores of 25-23, 25-18, and 25-22. They improve to 18-12 on the season and 6-10 in the ACC while the Orange move to 11-15 overall and 7-9 in the conference.Â
In set one it was back and forth down to the very end, the key moment of the set came when BC rattled off a 6-1 run to clinch it, highlighted by back to back aces from Junior setter Grace Penn and big kills from Graduate Kate Brennan (Endicott, N.Y) and Sophomore middle blocker Jenna Pollock (St. Catharines, Ont).Â
In set two the Eagles raced out to a quick 8-4 lead however Syracuse fought their way back into it at 16-14. But a few service errors proved costly for Syracuse and thanks that and some nice offensive play from Seniors Silivia Ianeselli (Trento, Italy) and Izzy Clavenna (Dallas, Texas) BC was able to take a 2-0 lead in the match.Â
In set three, BC was looking for the sweep, and they would get it, outhitting the Orange .481 to .303 for the set. More service errors from Syracuse would help the Eagles in this one as well with Syracuse giving up three easy points in the final six.Â
Silvia Ianeselli had an impressive performance in this one, tallying 12 kills on a .409 hitting percentage to go along with seven digs and four service aces. Sophomore middle blocker Julia Haggerty (Lafayette, Calif) played extremely efficiently going for seven kills on nine attempts as well as three more blocks to add to her ACC leading total.Â
BC will play their final home match of the regular season next Saturday at 2 p.m as they host Virginia Tech for Senior Day.Â
