October 09, 2022 | Volleyball
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College lost to Notre Dame 1-3 on Sunday afternoon, the Eagles lost by scores of 29-27, 25-21 and 25-23. BC now moves to 13-7 on the season and 1-5 in the ACC while Notre Dame improves to 7-9 overall and 2-4 on the conference.Â
In what was a fierce back and forth set one, the Eagles fought to the bitter end and even held a 23-20 lead at one point however after the Fighting Irish were able to force deuce at 24-24 they would go on to clinch the set winning three of the last four points.Â
After dropping set two, Boston College looked to stay alive in set three and avoid another 3-0 sweep. The Eagles raced out to a very quick 13-4 lead and never looked back as they would go on to cruise to a 25-13 set win, highlighted by some clutch kills from Senior right side Izzy Clavenna (Dallas, Texas) and Junior outside hitter Alayna Crabtree (Normal, Ill)Â
In set four, it really looked like it could have been either sides for the taking. BC scratched and clawed to try to force a fifth set however the Fighting Irish showed some impressive composure and poise late as they went on a 4-1 run to clinch the set and the match.Â
For Notre Dame, Avery Ross led the way with 10 kills on a .368 hitting percentage and Lauren Tarnoff added nine kills and seven blocks as well.Â
Senior captain Izzy Clavenna posted her season-high with 18 kills and an impressive .400 hitting percentage. Alayna Crabtree tallied 14 kills and four blocks of her own.Â
Boston College will head back out onto the road next weekend for matches against North Carolina and NC State.Â
