BC Falls to North Carolina in First Match of Road Trip

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – Boston College lost 0-3 to North Carolina on Friday evening, the Eagles lost by scores of 15-25, 21-25 and 18-25. BC now drops to 13-8 on the season and 1-6 in the ACC while the Tar Heels improve to an 11-7 overall record and 3-4 in the conference.

After UNC ran away with set one, the Eagles looked to get back into the match in set two as they managed to start quick going up 12-5. However North Carolina managed to climb all the way back behind an 8-1 scoring run to tie it up at 15-15. The conclusion of the set came down to the wire as it looked like it could have gone either way but the Tar Heels clinched the set on a 3-1 run to close it out.

For the Heels, Mabrey Shaffmaster led the way on offense with 12 kills to go along with eight digs and Kaya Merkler added nine kills on a .562 hitting percentage and six total blocks.

Junior outside hitter Alayna Crabtree (Normal, Ill) totaled a team-high eight kills while Sophomore middle blocker Jenna Pollock (St. Catharines, Ont) added five kills and two blocks as well.

BC will be back in action on Sunday in Raleigh to take on the NC State Wolfpack.
