Eagles Pull Out Five Set Win Over NC State
October 16, 2022 | Volleyball
RALEIGH, N.C – Boston College defeated NC State 3-2 on Sunday afternoon, the Eagles won by scores of 25-19, 25-22, and 15-12. The Eagles improve their record to 14-8 overall on the season and 2-6 in the ACC while the Wolfpack move to 11-8 on the season and 5-3 in the conference.
After NC State ran away with set one, BC knew that they had to respond in set two, and that is exactly what they did as they raced out to a quick 8-4 lead. the Wolfpack would fight their way back later in the set but the Eagles held on behind huge kills from Freshman opposite Audrey Della Vedova (San Clemente, Calif) and Senior right side hitter Izzy Clavenna.
The two sides went back and forth in set three until after being down 21-19 late, the Eagles rattled off a 6-1 run to clinch the set in impressive fashion, fueled by big kills from Senior outside hitter Silvia Ianeselli (Trento, Italy) and service aces from Junior libero Bridget Green and Junior setter Grace Penn (Manhattan Beach, Calif).
After the Wolfpack managed to stay alive in set four, it was anybody's match for the taking in the fifth set. The Eagles showed their composure on a 4-0 run to clinch the match off clutch kills Graduate middle blocker Kate Brennan (Endicott, N.Y) and Sophomore middle blocker Jenna Pollock (St. Catharines, Ont).
Pollock, who had one of her best performances of the season finished with a team-high 15 kills, six digs, a block and an ace. Izzy Clavenna came up big as well in this one with 12 kills and two total blocks.
The Eagles will be back on the road again next weekend as they get set for matches against Georgia Tech and Clemson.
