Sigurdarson Scores in Senior Night Draw Against UNC
October 21, 2022 | Men's Soccer
NEWTON, Mass. – Stefan Sigurdarson scored his career-high ninth goal of the season on Senior Night as Boston College played to a 1-1 ACC draw against North Carolina at the Newton Soccer Complex on Friday night.
Sigurdarson moved past Charlie Davis for sole possession of seventh place on the program's all-time goals list with 25. The Icelandic striker also tied the ACC lead in total goals this season.
Brennan Klein made four saves for Boston College (3-6-4, 1-4-2 ACC), including a key save in the first half to deny Akeim Clarke his second goal of the night.
Both goals came in the first half on nearly identical set pieces. Clarke flicked a header into the bottom left corner off a free kick from Ernest Bawa in the 12th minute to give UNC (6-4-4, 2-2-3 ACC) a 1-0 lead.
The Eagles answered in the 26th minute on a free kick from Diego Ochoa, who curled a left-footed ball into the middle of the box for Sigurdarson to lightly deflect with a header past Andre Cordes (3 saves).
BC carried the play in the second half, out-shooting North Carolina 6-3 after halftime. Jesus Sahagun nearly won the game with a blistering right-footed effort from the right wing, but missed the left post by inches in the 80th minute.
Sigurdarson led all players with five shots on the night including three on target, while Clarke had four shots for the Tar Heels.
Prior to kickoff, BC honored graduating seniors Walker Davey, Jesus Sahagun, Stefan Sigurdarson, Amos Shapiro-Thompson and Victor Souza as well as graduate student Adrian Zenko.
Boston College hosts Endicott in its home finale on Monday at 5:30 p.m. on ACCNX.
