Bob Thompson to step down as head coach effective Immediately
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Boston College Athletics announced Monday that men's soccer head coach Bob Thompson is stepping down from his position, effective immediately.
Associate head coach Francesco D'Agostino has been named interim head coach and will lead the program during the transition.
"After a lot of prayer and conversations with my family, I've made the difficult decision to step away from Boston College," said Bob Thompson. "My time here as a coach has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life, but right now I need to be there for my family. I have complete confidence in the culture we've built, the character of our players, and Coach Francesco's ability to guide this group forward this season. I'm grateful for every player, coach, and colleague I've had the honor to work with. Above all, I'm thankful to God for the opportunity to be a part of this program and for the incredible relationships I've built along the way."
"Bob has made a meaningful impact on our men's soccer program and the student-athletes he has coached," said William V. Campbell Director of Athletics Blake James. "We appreciate his service to Boston College and wish him and his family well in their next chapter."
