October 15, 2022 | Men's Soccer
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – No. 10 Wake Forest broke through with three goals in the final 17 minutes of regulation in a 3-1 ACC victory over visiting Boston College on Saturday night at Spry Stadium.
The Demon Deacons improved to 11-3-0 overall and 4-2-0 in the conference, while the Eagles dropped to 3-6-3 (1-4-1 ACC).
Senior striker Stefan Sigurdarson netted his league-leading eighth goal of the season in the loss.
Following a tight, scoreless first half, Wake Forest finally found the back of the net in the 74th minute. Jahlane Forbes sent a left-wing cross to the back post and Colin Thomas finished first time into the roof of the net to open the scoring.
Seven minutes later, Oscar Sears weaved through traffic to the right edge of the Boston College 18-yard box before ripping a shot into the upper left corner to double the Wake Forest lead.
Vlad Walent made it a 3-0 game in the 85th minute as he slid a shot into the bottom right corner to beat Brennan Klein, who finished the night with six saves.
Sigurdarson drew a goal back in the closing minutes, taking advantage of a turnover to poke the ball past Trace Alphin with his left foot to deny the clean sheet.
Wake had a 15-10 shot advantage, but BC held an 8-6 edge after halftime paced by three from Ted Cargill.
The Eagles return to the Newton Soccer Complex next Friday to host North Carolina on ACC Network at 6 p.m.
