Eagles Fall 2-1 at Quinnipiac to Begin Fall Season

HAMDEN, Conn. – Quinnipiac scored twice in the second half to erase a 1-0 halftime deficit and beat Boston College 2-1 on Thursday afternoon in the season opener for both teams at the QU Soccer Stadium.

The Eagles took the lead in the 12th minute on an individual effort from Michael Suski. The Connecticut native split a pair of defenders on the edge of the 18-yard box before ripping a left-footed shot into the roof of the net.

Following promising chances early in the second half from Stefan Sigurdarson and Moritz Frahm in front of the Quinnipiac goal, the Bobcats scored twice in the span of three minutes to take the lead.

Jason Budhai equalized for QU in the 63rd minute, beating Christian Garner with a low shot to the near post from the top right corner of the box. Garner then tripped Brage Aasen inside the box, and Tomas Svecula converted the penalty to the right post for a 2-1 cushion in the 66th minute.

Drew Serafino's effort from the right wing was blocked in the dying seconds and Quinnipiac held on for the victory.

BC out-shot QU 19-13 on total attempts and 8-5 on shots on goal. Kristofer Konradsson led the team with three shots on goal in 58 minutes as a substitute.

Nine Eagles made their BC debuts on Thursday including eight freshmen, six of which were in the starting lineup.

Boston College meets Boston University in the Battle of Comm Ave on Monday (Aug. 30) in Newton for the home opener. Kickoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. and the match will air live on ACC Network.
