Eagles Top Minutewomen, 3-1, in Newton

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – The Boston College women's soccer team topped UMass, 3-1, on Monday afternoon at the Newton Campus Soccer Field in the 2021 home-opener.
A scoreless first half gave way to the teams combining for four goals over the final 15 minutes of play, with Ella Richards scoring twice for BC, including the game-winning goal in the 79th minute.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- 74' | Emily Knous' shot from the left side of the field deflected off a defender and in to the box. After a few moments, Linda Boama was able to capitalize on the loose ball, slotting it past the goalkeeper.
- 79' | Ella Richards collected the ball about 15 yards out from goal, made a move to get around her defender and then sent the ball to the far post.
- 83' | After firing a shot off the crossbar, Lauren Smida finished her own rebound into the net.
- 88' | From deep on the right flank, Samantha Agresti sent a long ball in to the box where Richards was able to just get a piece of to redirect past the charging goalkeeper.
- Boston College is now 3-13-1 in the all-time series with UMass … this marked the third consecutive win in the series for the Eagles.
- Ella Richards and Linda Boama both scored for the second consecutive game … they're both now tied for the team lead with three goals apiece.
- Richards scored twice for her first career brace.
- BC had the 4-3 edge in corner kicks and a 25-14 lead in shots.
- Wiebke Willebrandt made four saves for the second consecutive game to move to 2-0-0 on the year.
- This marked the first career game-winning goal for Richards.
- The Eagles will host Boston University at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 26 at the Newton Campus Soccer Field.
