April 21, 2021 | Lacrosse
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – It's a top-five battle in the Carrier Dome to close out the regular season for the No. 4 Boston College lacrosse team as they take on No. 3 Syracuse on Thursday, April 22 at 6 p.m. on ESPNU and Saturday, April 24 at 12 p.m. on ACCNX.
Â
SERIES HISTORY
Syracuse leads the all-time series against BC, 15-6. BC won the last matchup against the Orange, 14-13 on April 26, 2019 in Chestnut Hill. Syracuse's last win came in the dome on Feb. 11, 2017, 18-8. Later that year, BC upset the Orange in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on its way to its first-ever NCAA Championship game appearance. BC is on a four-game winning streak against Syracuse, with the last three games being decided by one goal.
Â
SCOUTING THE ORANGE
Syracuse enters at their lowest national ranking of the year at #3 in all three polls with an 11-1 (7-1 ACC) record. Their lone loss is to #1 North Carolina. Meaghan Tyrrell and Megan Carney lead a high-powered Orange offense averaging nearly 16 goals a game. Tyrrell has 72 points (45G, 27A), while Carney has 66 points (46G, 20A). Freshman Emma Ward is third on the team with 35 points (16G, 19A). Asa Goldstock leads the defensive unit for Syracuse, starting all 12 games and has an 11-1 record. She has a 8.89 GAA and .469 save percentage.
Â
OFFENSIVE FIREPOWER
BC has one of the best offenses in the nation and is averaging 17.5 goals per game. Led by Charlotte North, the Eagles are third in the nation in goals per game and lead the ACC. The Eagles have also been incredibly efficient and are second in the nation and leads the ACC with a .529 shot percentage.
Â
MAKE IT, TAKE IT LACROSSE
BC has found a formula of success on the field, scoring goals in bunches by winning draws. The Eagles are second in the country getting 18.33 draws per game. BC has three players in the top-10 in the ACC in draw controls, led by Charlotte North with 9.17 per game. Hollie Schleicher is fifth in the ACC with 4.17 per fame and Cara Urbank is 10th in the conference with 2.92. The Eagles dominate in the circle, getting 61.1% of all draws as well. Which is ninth in the nation and second in the ACC.
Â
POSTSEASON STIPULATIONS
The second seed in the ACC Tournament is on the line in these next two games for both of these teams, entering at 7-1 in conference play. If either team sweeps the weekend, they will be the second seed and most likely face Louisville in the quarterfinal. If the teams split, they'll go to a conference goal-differential tiebreaker since both teams have only one loss in conference play and it is to North Carolina. BC currently holds the tiebreaker at +39 in goal differential, while Syracuse is +30.

WHAT'S NEXT
BC begins postseason play on Wednesday, April 28 in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. The game time will be dependent on seeding.
