Tigers come from behind for 4-3 win in nine innings in game two
CLEMSON, S.C. – No. 17 Clemson won both games of Saturday's doubleheader with a 10-2 victory in six innings in game one and a come-from-behind 4-3 win in nine innings in game two.
The two wins move Clemson to 31-4 overall while BC dropped to 8-24.
In game one, Clemson scored four runs in the first inning, three of them unearned, to take control and never look back.
The Tigers added three runs in the fourth and three in the sixth to end it in six innings.
Gianna Boccagno hit her team-leading fourth home run of the season for the Eagles in game one while Elisabeth Laviolette went 2-for-2 and was hit by a pitch.
In game two, Peyton Schnackenberg pitched a gem, limiting the Tigers to just two earned runs in 5.1 innings of work. She struck out three and walked just one.
BC scored first with a RBI single from Laviolette to score AJ Alatorre, who doubled to start the third inning.
Clemson tied it quickly at one with an unearned run in the home half of the third.
BC went back in front in the fourth on a two-out infield single by Maddy Carpe to lead 2-1.
Ellie Mataya crushed her first home run of the year into the wind in right field to extend the lead to 3-1 in the fifth. The Eagles looked to add a run to their lead in the sixth, but the run was thrown out at the plate from center field to end the threat.
Clemson evened the contest at 3-3 in the bottom of the sixth on a dropped fly ball from BC and a squeeze play at the plate.
In the Clemson ninth, the Tigers used two infield singles and two BC errors to score the game-winning, unearned run for the 4-3 victory.
The four-game series finishes Sunday at noon.
