
Boston College Sweeps Virginia Tech

The Eagles won back-to-back matches on the weekend with a 3-0 decision over the Hokies.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College volleyball team scored a 3-0 sweep of Virginia Tech at Power Gym on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles, winners of two in a row, claimed the match by scores of 25-23, 25-20 and 25-17.
BC led early in the first and by as many as six at 11-5 when VT called the first timeout of the afternoon. The Hokies would close the gap to one, but senior outside hitter Clare Naughton (Atlanta, Ga.) put away the set with her second kill.
Virginia Tech controlled the early part of the second, leading by as many as three at 9-6. The Eagles used a 3-1 run to take a brief lead at 11-10 before finishing the set on a 9-4 run after being tied 16-16.
The third set was all BC as the Eagles hit .400. Senior middle blocker Amaka Chukwujekwu (Laurel, Md.) finished off match-point with her ninth kill of the match. She hit .667 and added four blocks.
Naughton led all players with 12 kills on a .375 attack rate to go with 13 digs in the double-double effort. Sophomore middle blocker Gabby McCaa (Minneapolis, Minn.) contributed seven kills and three blocks.
Freshmen setters Sophia Lambros (Fullerton, Calif.) and Grace Penn (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) each dished out 19 assists. Penn tallied six digs and Lambros five. Freshman libero Anna Murphy (Zionsville, Ind.) added 11 digs.
The Eagles return to action next weekend with two matches at Wake Forest.
