Eagles Gearing Up to Host Louisville on Saturday

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The Boston College men's soccer team is set to return to action on the Newton Campus Soccer Field for the first time in 485 days when it hosts Louisville on Saturday, March 20. The game is slated for a 2 p.m. start.

All home 202-210 BC athletics events are closed to the public due to Covid-19 protocols.

A WIN OVER LOUISVILLE WOULD . . .
• Give the Eagles an overall record of 1-2-0.
• Give Bob Thompson his first career win as a head coach.
• Move the Eagles' record in the all-time series with Louisville to 1-5-1.

ABOUT LOUISVILLE
• Louisville is riding a two-game win streak after topping Syracuse, 3-1 on March 12 ... the Cardinals opened up the spring season with a 3-0 win at NC State on March 4 and stand at 3-6-1 on the year.
• Pedro Fonseca has 11 points in 10 games played, scoring four goals and adding three assists ... Fonseca also has a team-leading 20 shots with nine on goal.
• Elijah Amo is second on the team in scoring with three goals and two assists for eight points ... Aboubacar Camara has seven points on three goals and one assist, with two of his goals going for game-winners.
• Jake Gelnovatch has started seven games in goal for Louisville in the fall, going 1-5-0 with a 2.49 goals against average and 0.571 save percentage while Detre Bell has started both of the Cardinals' spring matches and stands at 2-0-0 with a .875 save percentage, 0.50 goals against average and one shutout.

SERIES HISTORY VS LOUISVILLE
• Boston College is 0-4-1 all-time against Louisville, with all games played since Louisville joined the ACC in 2014.
• The first two games in the series were one-goal BC losses, including the first-ever meeting on Sept. 29, 2014 (3-2 OT), with four of the five meetings being decided by one goal.
• In the first four meetings between the teams, at least one overtime period was played until the Cardinals earned a 4-0 win over the Eagles in 2017.
• The teams last met on Oct. 18, 2019, with Louisville getting a 3-2 win at home ... Stefan Sigurdarson scored two goals for the Eagles in the loss.

LAST TIME OUT
• The Eagles were last in action on March 13 at Pitt, falling 1-0 to the Panthers.
• The Panthers scored in the third minute for the early 1-0 lead but five first-half saves from Christian Garner kept the Eagles within striking distance at the break.
• Despite late pressure from the Eagles, the Cardinals held on for the win ... Garner finished with seven saves while Kristofer Konradsson led the Eagles on the night with five shots, including two on goal.

BC DEBUTS
• In BC's first game of the spring at Wake Forest on March 6, Jorge Dickens and Nacho Dominguez made their collegiate debuts.
• Dickens started and played 32 minutes while Dominguez played 58 minutes off the bench.
• Dominguez then earned his first career start at Pitt on March 13.
• That Wake Forest match also marked head coach Bob Thompson's first game at the helm of the Eagles.

468 DAYS LATER. . .AT WAKE FOREST
• The Boston College men's soccer team finally returned to the pitch for a competition on Saturday, March 6 at Wake Forest ... it had been 468 days since the last game.
• The Demon Deacons jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the ninth minute but Stefan Sigurdarson tied the game up in the 40th.
• Kristofer Konradsson then gave BC a 2-1 lead just three minutes into the second half ... Wake Forest, though, would score twice over the final five minutes for the come-from-behind 3-2 win.
• Christian Garner finished with three saves for the Eagles ... Sigurdarson's goal was the ninth of his career and third against Wake Forest.
• The game marked Bob Thompson's first as head coach of the Eagles.

2019 REWIND
• The Boston College men's soccer team finished the 2019 season with an overall mark of 9-6-3 and a record of 2-4-2 in ACC play.
• The Eagles earned the program's 15th-ever NCAA tournament appearance ... BC hosted Yale in the first round, earning a 3-0 win, and then fell at No. 4 Washington, 2-0, in the second round.
• The Eagles opened up the season with a 4-0-0 mark and then went on to record a six-game unbeaten streak later in the season.
• Stefan Sigurdarson led the team in scoring, putting up 20 points on eight goals and four assists ... he had three game-winning goals as a rookie.
• Fellow freshmen Michael Suski and Amos Shapiro-Thompson were second and third in scoring ... Suski had 12 points on four goals and four assists ... Shapiro-Thompson had nine points on four goals and one assist.
• David Longo and Victor Souza both played every single minute of the 2019 season, putting in 1,707 minutes on the pitch.
• Goalkeeper Christian Garner appeared in 12 games ... Garner went 5-3-3 with a 1.12 goals against average, .794 save percentage and four shutouts ... he ranked first in the ACC in saves per game (4.50) and second in saves (54).

THE 2021 CAPTAINS
• The Eagles are led by a quartet of student-athletes this year in Gregorio Barilla, Ian Buehler, Christian Garner and David Longo.
• Garner, a junior, appeared in 12 games with nine starts in 2019 ... the goalkeeper finished the season with 54 saves and a .794 save percentage.
• Buehler, a senior, has played in eight games for the Eagles, including a career-high six last season as a junior.
• Barilla, a two-time All-ACC Academic Honor Roll member, earned his debut as an Eagle last season at Virginia Tech as a sophomore.
• The redshirt-senior Longo made an immediate impact since transferring to the Heights ahead of the 2018 season and has gone on to start all 34 of BC's contests over the last two season.
