Top-10 Matchup as No. 10 BC Faces No. 8 Virginia

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The No. 10 Boston College lacrosse team faces off against No. 8 Virginia in a top-10 matchup at the Newton Lacrosse and Soccer Field on Saturday, March 13 at 2 p.m. on ACC Network.
SERIES HISTORY
BC is 5-13 all-time against Virginia. The last time these teams played was on March 30, 2019, where BC won 16-9. The Eagles are on a three-game win streak dating back to April 1, 2017 when BC won 17-01 in Newton. UVA's last win came on April 2, 2016 in Charlottesville, 15-14.
SCOUTING THE CAVS
Virginia enters as a consensus top-10 team, being ranked as high as No. 5 in the US Lacrosse poll. The Hoos are currently 5-0, with three ranked wins at Richmond, Virginia Tech and Louisville. Offensively, they have five with at least 10 points, including Mackenzie Hoeg, who has seven goals and six assists for 13 points. Ashlyn McGovern leads the Cavs with 11 goals.
In goal, Charlie Campbell has started all four games, amassing a 8.46 goals against average and .492 save percentage.
THE ATTACK
BC's is being led by its four attackers, who have 40 of BC's 64 goals so far and have combined for 56 points. Preseason All-Americans Charlotte North and Cara Urbank have led the way for BC, putting up 17 and 9 goals, respectively. North has 17 points and Urbank 14 on the year. Against UMass, BC a breakout for Jenn Medjid and Caitlynn Mossman, who both tied or set career-highs. Medjid tied career-high's in goals (5) and points (6), while Mossman set career-highs with four assists and five goals. Medjid now has nine goals and three assists for 12 points and Mossman two goals and a team-high five assists for seven points. Medjid currently sits second on the team with 11 goals this year.
FRESHMEN ON THE BIG STAGE
Even with a much older college lacrosse landscape because of the extra year of eligibility, BC has some freshmen who have really stepped up early. Belle Smith, the No. 2 incoming recruiting according to Inside Lacrosse, is currently leading the middie's with seven goals and three assists. Against UMass, she recorded an early career-high three goals. Hunter Roman has started both games for BC, tallying three caused turnovers and team-high seven ground balls. In limited time, Annabelle Hasselbeck has already begun to make an impact. Coming on mostly in transition situations, Hasselbeck has one goal and one assist this year.
WHAT'S NEXT
BC has two non-conference games next week. First, they welcome UNH to Fish Field House on Wednesday, March 17 at 4 p.m. and then travel to Hofstra on Saturday, March 20 at 12 p.m.
