
Strong Defense Leads BC Past Georgia Tech 49-43

Cameron Swartz led all scorers with 23 points in the win
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass – Junior Cameron Swartz led all scorers with 23 points to lead Boston College to a 49-43 victory over Georgia Tech (13-6, 11-5 ACC) Sunday in the team's first annual Black History Month celebration game.

Swartz was sensational as she went 8-of-14 from the field and a perfect 6-of-6 from the free throw line to lead BC (6-10, 2-10 ACC) to the win

Junior Taylor Soule also finished with 13 points and seven rebounds for the victors.

Boston College led 9-8 after 10 minutes of play as both teams struggled offensively.

The Eagles outscored the Yellow Jackets 16-12 in the second quarter to take a 25-20 lead into halftime. With 4:51 remaining in the half, Soule capped off an 11-0 run with an old fashioned three-point play. Swartz led BC in scoring at the half with 11 points on 5-of-5 shooting.

Georgia Tech led 41-37 after three quarters of play with help from 57.1% shooting in the frame. Swartz hit a three-pointer while being fouled and converted on the free throw attempt with 2:17 remaining in the third to cut into the Yellow Jackets lead. She went on to score eight points in the quarter.Â

The Eagles outscored Georgia Tech 12-2 in the fourth quarter and held the Yellow Jackets without a field goal to secure the win. The fourth quarter was highlighted once again by Swartz as she made a layup and then forced a turnover on consecutive possessions halfway through the frame. The victors ended the game on an 8-0 run, including a driving layup from Makayla Dickens and a turnaround jumper from Ally VanTimmeren with less than a minute to play.

BC was strong in the paint all day, outscoring Georgia Tech 32-20 in the paint. The Eagles held a 15-4 advantage in points off turnovers and outscored Tech 10-2 on the fast break.

Boston College closes the regular season on the road against Syracuse Thursday at 8 p.m. on ACC Network.
