
Boston College Completes Season-Opening Sweep

MT. PLEASANT, S.C. – The Boston College baseball team completed a sweep of Charleston Southern at Shipyard Park with a 10-2 win on Sunday afternoon. The Eagles head home with a 3-0 record, while the Buccaneers start the year 0-3.
BC scored double digit runs for the third time this weekend. Junior left fielder and leadoff hitter Chris Galland (Sudbury, Mass.) went 1-for-3 with two walks, three runs and a stolen base.
Freshman right-handed pitcher Joe Vetrano (Shrub Oak, N.Y.) started the game for two innings before handing the ball off to graduate RHP Alex Stiegler (Dallas, Texas). Vetrano allowed one unearned run on a walk with two strikeouts. Stiegler (1-0) struck out five, allowed five hits and did not issue a walk in four-scoreless innings. At the plate, Vetrano went 2-for-4 with a RBI-double in the seven-hole.
Junior center fielder Sal Frelick (Lexington, Mass.) added a 2-for-5 game with a double and two RBI. Sophomore second baseman Luke Gold (Ballston, N.Y.) was 2-for-4 with two RBI.
