
NC State Scores Three in the Seventh for the Series Win

Wolfpack hit consecutive home runs with two outs in the 7-6 victory
RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State got back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the seventh with two outs as the Wolfpack defeated Boston College 7-6 for the series win on Saturday. Sam Russ walked it off with a solo shot to center after Sam Gress hit a two-run shot to tie it with two strikes and two outs.

The heartbreaking loss dropped the Eagles to 2-7 overall and 1-4 in the ACC while NC State moved to 4-1.

Boston College loaded the bases in the first before junior first baseman Jenna Ergle singled through the left side to give the Eagles a 1-0 lead.

Junior left fielder Ellie Mataya padded the advantage to 2-0 with a single in the second. Mataya worked the count and saw over 10 pitches before ripping a line drive to right for the Eagles' second run of the day, scoring Nicole Giery.

NC State's Randi Farricker went the opposite way in the bottom of the second for a solo home run to cut the lead to 2-1. It was the first run allowed by Susannah Anderson in 8 2/3 innings against the Wolfpack this season.

Senior Emme Martinez smoked a single to left in the fourth to score Erika Andal giving BC another two-run advantage at 3-1.

The Eagles added three runs in the top of the fifth, including two on one swing as Mataya delivered with a big two-out, two-RBI single to give Boston College a 6-1 lead.

NC State scored two runs with two outs in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 6-3 as Farricker delivered two runs with a two-out double.

The Wolfpack scratched across another run in the sixth before the three-run seventh to complete the comeback.

Mataya was the star offensively for BC, going 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs batted in. Andal and Giery both scored twice for the Eagles.

BC returns to action with a four-game series March 5-7 at Virginia Tech. All four games will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra from Blacksburg.
