Eagles left 14 runners on base in 3-2 loss to Jacksonville
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – Boston College junior center fielder Ellie Mataya was 2-for-4 with a double, RBI and run scored but it was not enough as Jacksonville captured a 3-2 victory over the Eagles Sunday morning.
The loss ended BC's weekend with a 1-3 record as the Eagles stranded 14 baserunners on Sunday.
BC left the bases loaded in the first and second innings without scoring before Jacksonville struck first in the home half of the second. JU's Samantha Poehlman doubled to left center to give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead.
JU added another run in the home half of the third before BC got on the scoreboard in the fourth. Jules Trevino started the inning with a double and scored on a RBI double off the bat of Mataya.
The Dolphins quickly responded with a RBI double from Makenzie Buss to extend the lead to 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth.
Mataya continued her big day as she singled and later scored on the sixth to make it 3-2 Jacksonville. The Eagles had a chance for another big inning, but left the bases loaded again.
Trevino finished the day 1-for-2 with a run, double and two walks for the Eagles. CC Cook tossed 2.1 innings of shutout relief for BC.
The Eagles return to the diamond Wednesday at NC State. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. with live broadcast coverage on ACC Network Extra.
