
Eagles Earn First Win of the Season

Seniors Naughton and Chukwujeku lead the way over Northeastern.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College volleyball picked up its first win of the season, 3-1, over Northeastern at Power Gym on Saturday night. The Eagles moved to 1-8 overall following their first game-action since the abbreviated fall season. BC won the match by scores of 25-23, 25-20, 17-25 and 25-14.

The two sides went back-and-forth throughout the first set with the Eagles holding a 15-13 lead at the media timeout. BC claimed the game on a combo block from sophomore middle blocker Gabby McCaa (Minneapolis, Minn.) and freshman setter Sophia Lambros (Fullerton, Calif.). Senior outside hitter Claire Naughton (Atlanta, Ga.) collected five kills and six digs in the set.

Boston College took a two-sets to none lead with a 25-20 win in the second; leading wire-to-wire. Northeastern led by as many as 11 in the third to force a fourth with a 25-17 win. The Eagles dominated the fourth; closing out the match by hitting .375 to the Huskies' .098 in the final frame.

Naughton led BC with 12 kills on a .333 attack rate to go with nine digs. Senior middle blocker Amaka Chukwujekwu (Laurel, Md.) added eight kills and hit .375. Northeastern's Erica Staunton led all players with 16 kills.

Lambros dished out 19 assists, while adding nine digs. Freshman setter Grace Penn (Manhattan Beach, Calif.) added 15 assists and five digs. Freshman libero Anna Murphy (Zionsville, Ind.) contributed 21 digs.

The Eagles and Huskies meet again next Saturday at Power Gym at 7 p.m.
