BC Drops Season Opener at Jacksonville

Eagles fall 4-0 in weather-shortened contest
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Boston College softball team opened the 2021 season with a 4-0 loss at Jacksonville Friday afternoon in the first game of a scheduled doubleheader. The game was called with one out in the top of the seventh inning due to inclement weather.

BC had a runner on first base with one out when the game was called in the top of the seventh.

Friday's second game of the doubleheader was canceled due to the weather and will not be rescheduled.

Jacksonville pitcher Alyssa Bilodeau (1-0) finished with 12 strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work to get the win for the Dolphins.

Boston College starter Susannah Anderson (0-1) allowed just one earned run with six strikeouts in 4.0 innings of work.

The Dolphins (1-0) scored a pair of runs in the first as Hannah Roberts drove in a run with a single and later scored on an error. JU added another unearned run in the fourth and one in the fifth to close out the scoring.

BC's best scoring opportunity came in the fifth inning as Gianna Boccagno reached on an error and Djhane Valido walked, but the Eagles stranded two as Bilodeau worked out of trouble.

The Eagles (0-1) return to the diamond with a doubleheader tomorrow at North Florida at 1 p.m. Both games will be streamed live via UNF's website (UNFOspreys.com).
