Junior quarterback picks up three national accolades following GT performance
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College junior quarterback Phil Jurkovec was named the ACC Quarterback of the Week for the second time this season after his five-touchdown performance in the win at Georgia Tech on Saturday.
Jurkovec was also named Pro Football Focus's Quarterback of the Week along with being named by The Manning Award as one of eight quarterbacks as its "Stars of the Week." Jurkovec averaged 23.9 yards per completion in the 41-30 win at Georgia Tech. That was the best yards per completion total by a BC quarterback since at least 1996 when throwing for 300+ yards in a game.
It was the fourth best total by an ACC quarterback as well since 1996.
Jurkovec became just the second BC quarterback in school history to throw for two touchdowns and run for two touchdowns in an ACC game. Jurkovec threw for 237 yards and two touchdowns in the first half while also rushing for 34 yards and two touchdowns in the opening 30 minutes.
Only Jurkovec, Crane and Patrick Towles (2016 vs. Wagner) have thrown for two scores and run for two touchdowns in the same game since 1996 for Boston College.
Jurkovec is the only player in BC history to throw for two scores and run for two scores in the first half of an ACC game. The Eagles joined the ACC in 2005.
The Pittsburgh native became the sixth Eagle since 1996 to account for five touchdowns in a game (two passing, three rushing). It was the first five-touchdown performance by a BC quarterback since Anthony Brown versus Wake Forest in 2018.
Jurkovec has thrown for 300 yards six times in 14 career games at Boston College. He is fifth in school history with the six 300-yard games. Matt Ryan and Doug Flutie own the school record with 12 career 300-yard passing games.
Boston College returns to action Saturday at Alumni Stadium vs. Florida State. Kickoff is set for noon on ACC Network and WEEI 93.7 FM.
