October 08, 2021 | Men's Soccer
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – Boston College scored first on freshman Aidan Farwell's first collegiate goal, but Leo Afonso scored twice to lead Virginia back for a 2-1 ACC victory on Friday night at Klockner Stadium.
The Eagles dropped to 4-5-2 (0-3-2 ACC) while the Cavaliers posted their first ACC win and improved to 4-6-2 (1-4-0).
Farwell's goal came just five minutes into the first half with assists from classmate Drew Serafino and junior Michael Suski.
Afonso answered for the Cavaliers in the 17th minute, capitalizing on a collision near the edge of the BC box which took down Brennan Klein (2 saves).
Afonso's second of the night proved to be the game-winner in the 61st minute. Daniel Wright lobbed a pass to the top of the 6-yard box and Afonso nodded the ball inside the left post to beat Klein.
Boston College had a flurry of shots in the final five minutes, but Holden Brown made two of his five saves to preserve the win for UVA.
The Eagles out-shot the Cavaliers 12-10 overall and 6-4 in shots on goal. Suski led the team with three shots while adding his third assist of the year.
BC returns home to host Syracuse in ACC play next Friday night at 7 p.m.
