Kristofer Konradsson netted a dramatic winner in the 84th minute
NEWTON, Mass. — Boston College rallied against the Syracuse Orange and remained unbeaten at home (4-0-2) with a 1-0 shutout on Friday night behind a winner in the 84th minute from senior Kristofer Konradsson.
The Eagles posted their first ACC victory of the season and brought their overall record back to .500 at 5-5-2, while Syracuse dropped to 7-6-2.
The two teams battled back and forth in the first half, with each side managing just one shot in the first 45 minutes. Syracuse challenged the Eagles in the middle of the box in the 16th minute, but keeper Brennan Klein charged the ball nicely to keep the game scoreless.
The Eagles' best chance came in the 20th minute when freshman Moritz Frahm gained possession in the middle of the field and fired a shot from outside the box, but it sailed wide left.
Syracuse's Amferny Sinclair was charged with a foul in the 45th minute, but Konradsson's free kick was blocked by a wall of Orange defenders as the clock expired.
Konradsson finally broke the tie in the 84th minute after capitalizing on a Syracuse turnover in the midfield. Konradsson dribbled up the right side and cut back to his left as he approached the box. With a defender closing in, he fired a strike from the top of the box and sent a dart to the right corner.
Klein finished the night with two saves for his second career shutout.
Next up for the Eagles is a Tuesday night non-conference match at Merrimack at 7 p.m.
