Transfer from Lehigh will have one season remaining of eligibility
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. -- Head Coach Jim Christian announced that James Karnik will continue his academic and athletic endeavors at Boston College. Karnik - a transfer from Lehigh - signed his athletic grant-in-aid paperwork and will join the Eagles' men's basketball roster for the 2020-21 season. He will have one season of eligibility remaining.Â
"We are excited to have James join our basketball family at Boston College," said Christian. "He is a talented, athletic big man with a great feel for the game. He adds high-value as another experienced player. I'm looking forward to coaching him."
Karnik, a 6-9, 230 lb. center, averaged 12.2 points, 7.2 rebounds, 1.0 assists, 1.0 blocks, and 1.0 steals this past season at Lehigh. He missed 10 games due to injury, but earned the start in 18 of the 22 games in which he appeared. Karnik connected on over 57% of his field goal attempts - and nearly 60% inside the arc during the 2019-20 season. He reached double-digits in the scoring column 15 times, including six double-doubles in points and rebounds.
The native of Surrey, British Columbia saw action in 83 career games for the Mountain Hawks, averaging 9.3 points and 6.5 rebounds while connecting on 54.5% (317-582) of his field goal attempts. He has totaled 768 points and 543 rebounds in his first three seasons of college basketball. As a prep, he starred for Orangeville Prep in Toronto, helping the team capture the OSBA title with a 21-2 overall record.
Karnik is one of six newcomers to the 2020-21 roster. Earlier this month, Rich Kelly and Frederick Scott joined the Eagles as graduate transfers from Quinnipiac and Rider, respectively. During the early signing period this past November, DeMarr Langford and Justin Vander Baan committed to BC. Over the summer, Makai Ashton-Langford came to the Heights, transferring from Providence.
