Worcester native transfers to the Heights from Providence
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Makai Ashton-Langford has joined the Boston College men's basketball program. The 6-3 guard will sit out the 2019-20 season due to NCAA transfer regulations after spending his previous two seasons at Providence College. He began classes this week at the Heights in the Morrissey College of Arts & Sciences.
"We are thrilled to have Makai join our program," said head coach Jim Christian. "Makai has extensive experience playing with successful teams throughout his career - from his AAU program, prep school, and in the collegiate ranks. His year-in-residence as a transfer is one that we are excited for and I know Makai is dedicated to spending this season working to elevate his skills to an elite level. He will make our team better, pushing our guards in each and every practice."
Langford appeared in 63 total contests over the last two seasons while at Providence, averaging 4.0 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. Last season with the Friars, he scored a career-best 20 points against Villanova, making 6-of-9 shots from the floor - including 4-of-4 from the perimeter. In his two seasons in the Big East, Ashton-Langford posted nearly a 1.30:1 assist-turnover ratio.
A native of Worcester, Mass., Ashton-Langford starred for Brewster Academy in 2016-17. He averaged 18.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 7.0 assists for head coach Jason Smith, helping guide Brewster to a 33-0 record and the National Prep School Championship. A consensus top-50 recruit as a prep, Ashton-Langford played his AAU basketball with the Mass Rivals and head coach Vin Pastore.
