ATLANTA – Behind a grand slam from Gianna Boccagno, the Boston College softball team defeated Georgia Tech, 6-0, on Saturday, Feb. 7 at Mewborn Field for its first ACC win of the 2020 season.

Susannah Anderson pitched seven innings, giving up three hits with five strikeouts and no runs. The win gives her an ACC-lead five shutouts this season.

Both Kristin Giery and Emme Martinez with 2-3 on the day.

BC opened the scoring in the top of the fourth by playing a little small ball. After reaching base on a single, Ellie Mataya stole second. Then she advanced to third on a single by Martinez. Britney Richardson came in to pinch-run for Martinez, who then stole second. On the throw, Mataya broke for home and scored.

Giery then stepped to the plate and hit an RBI double down the left-field line to score pinch-runner Gianna Sarlo.

The Eagles then loaded the bases with a trio of singles, before Boccagno took the first pitch of her at-bat to left field for a grand slam.

Djhane Valido was active at shortstop, tallying a season-high eight assists in the field.

The Eagles play again tomorrow to close out the series with Georgia Tech, with first pitch set for 12 p.m. at Mewborn Field. The game will be shown live on ACC Network Extra.
