ATHENS, Ga. - The Boston College softball team run-ruled Eastern Illinois, 9-0, on Sunday, March 1 at Jack Turner Stadium in Athens, Georgia.
CC Cook started for BC in the circle, throwing four innings, while allowing only two hits and striking out one.
The Eagles outhit Eastern Illinois, 9-3, while not committing an error
AJ Alatorre went 3-4 on the day with two doubles and four RBI.
BC opened the scoring when Alatorre hit a two-RBI double off the left field wall to score Abigail Knight and Djhane Valido.
Cook started the game with three hitless innings before the leadoff batter for Eastern Illinois reached base on a single.
Susannah Anderson relieved Cook in the bottom of the fifth inning and threw the rest of the game for the Eagles. She pitched two innings, allowing two hits and striking out two.
Eastern Illinois threatened in the bottom of the fifth with the bases loaded and two outs, but Anderson weathered the storm by striking out the batter to end the inning and keep the shutout intact.
In the top of the sixth with the bases loaded, Ellie Mataya hit a double to left center to score Knight and pinch-runner Britney Richardson. Emme Martinez then stepped to the plate and hit a grounder that was misplayed by the second baseman, which brought home Gianna Boccango and Mataya. Jules Trevino then drew a bases-loaded walk to score Jenna Ergle. Alatorre then hit her second double of the game, again scoring two runs to extend.
The Eagles' scored seven runs in the top of the sixth to extend the lead past eight and end the game after a scoreless bottom of the frame.

BC is back on Wednesday, March 4 at 6 p.m. to play Georgia Southern in Statesboro, Georgia to continue its spring break road trip.
