New Hampshire Tops Boston College

The Wildcats scored twice in the first period and hung on for a 3-0 win.
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Tamara Thierus' goal midway through the first period proved to be the game-winner as New Hampshire defeated the Boston College women's hockey team, 3-0, on Friday afternoon at Kelley Rink.
The Eagles out-shot the Wildcats 32-38 in the game, but UNH got on the board midway through the first and then made it 3-0 before the first intermission. After a scoreless second period that saw Maddy McArthur make 13 saves for the Eagles, Ava Boutilier responded with 17 in the third period for the visitors, and Thierus potted her second of the day late to put the game away.
McArthur finished with 25 saves for BC while Boutilier had 32 for UNH. The Wildcats went 1-for-7 on the power play and the Eagles were 0-for-4.

- 1st, 9:09 | 0-1, UNH GOAL: After Maddie Truax blocked a shot in the slot for UNH, Meghara McManus fed Thierus up the ice for a breakaway that she finished top shelf.
- 1st, 12:05 | 0-2, UNH GOAL: Carlee Turner's slap shot was saved by McArthur but the rebound dropped into the crease and Jada Christian pushed it home at the left post.
- 3rd, 15:22 | 0-3, UNH GOAL: Crossing into the offensive zone with a 2-on-1, Christian slid the puck to Thierus for a near-side wrist shot from the left circle.
- BC now holds a 24-42-5 record in the all-time series with UNH and a mark of 14-21-2 at Kelley Rink … head coach Katie Crowley is 22-13-4 against the Wildcats.
- This marked the first shutout in the series since the Eagles had a 6-0 win on Jan. 5, 2018 and the first time UNH has had a shutout of BC out since a 0-0 tie on Feb. 19, 2011.
- Kate Annese and Jillian Fey both finished with three blocked shots … BC had 14 blocked shots in the game.
- Hannah Bilka led the Eagles with six shots on goal while Cayla Barnes fired four on goal.
