ABOUT THE EAGLES
BC went 3-1 on opening weekend against Northern Illinois in Winter Haven, Fla. Three senior Eagles went 6-for-13 in the series, including shortstop Brian Dempsey, who hit an opening day home run and totaled a team-high seven RBI. First baseman Jack Cunningham hit two doubles and outfielder Joe Suozzi added a triple. Sophomore outfielder Sal Frelick returned to the lineup and went 5-for-14 with six runs and three stolen bases. Sophomore right-hander Mason Pelio gets the ball on Friday night. He went five innings with two runs against him and four strikeouts in the opening day win vs. NIU.SCOUTING THE SUN DEVILS
Arizona State peaks in this week's rankings at No. 8. A Tuesday loss to No. 24 Oklahoma State dropped the Sun Devils to 2-3 on the season. ASU is hitting just .172 through five games, but Sun Devils pitchers have held opponents to a .182 average, while getting outscored 14-12. First baseman Spencer Torkelson, a preseason All-American, is hitting .308 with two solo home runs. Lefty Justin Fall started opening night and tossed six-scoreless in a 4-1 win over Villanova with six strikeouts.ALL-TIME VS. ASU
The Eagles and Sun Devils met for the first and only time in a four-game series at ASU in 1999. BC and first-year head coach Pete Hughes were swept by No. 20 Arizona State. Game one was narrowly decided, 6-5, before the Sun Devils scored 20-plus runs in each of the next three games.ÂBC VS. THE PAC-12
This weekend's series marks just the fourth time in program history that Boston College will play against a Pac-12 school. The Eagles are 1-7 all-time against the Pac-12. BC went 0-4 at Arizona State in 1999, 0-3 at California in 2002 and defeated Utah 4-3 in a winner's bracket game at the 2016 Oxford Regional.LAST TIME VS. THE PAC-12
A seventh-inning rally propelled the Eagles into the regional final on the way to their first ever Super Regional appearance. Boston College came from down 3-1 to score three runs in the seventh in a 4-3 win over Utah in Oxford, Miss. BC manufactured three runs on two hits, two hit batters, a walk and a fielder's choice.AGAINST THE RANKED
The Eagles went 8-15 against ranked opponents last season having defeated No. 7 and No. 8 Louisville (3/10, 5/22), No. 20 Clemson (3/24), No. 19 Florida State (3/29, 3/31), No. 1 NC State (4/7), No. 17 Georgia Tech (4/12) and No. 25 Duke (4/26). The first win over the Cardinals marked BC's first win over a ranked team and first over a ranked team on the road since defeating No. 21 Virginia (3/16/18). The series win at FSU marked the first for the Eagles against a ranked opponent at home or on the road since taking two of three at No. 22 Georgia Tech (2016). Boston College picked up just two wins vs. ranked teams in 2017 and 2018 and went 10-9 vs. the ranked in 2016.Players Mentioned
