Guy Hits Buzzer-Beater In 56-55 Win Over Notre Dame

Eagles improve to 7-6 in the ACC with win over Irish
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass.  – Senior Emma Guy hit a layup at the buzzer to give Boston College a come from behind victory over Notre Dame, 56-55, on Thursday night in an ACC conference game at Conte Forum.

This is the first time Boston College has defeated Notre Dame twice in the same season. Boston College is now 14-10 and 7-6 in the ACC. Notre Dame drops to 10-15 and 5-8 in the conference.

Guy finished with 12 points and nine rebounds while sophomore Taylor Soule had 20 points and 10 rebounds for her seventh double-double of the season. Senior Georgia Pineau pitched in with 13 points, 11 in the second half. Sophomore Makayla Dickens pitched in with nine rebounds and four assists.
Destinee Walker led Notre Dame with 21 points and nine rebounds.Â

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Taylor Soule led BC with seven points and six boards as BC was up 11-10 in the first quarter. Notre Dame shot 25 percent in the quarter, while BC's offense was not better at 10.5 percent from the floor.
- Notre Dame went on a 13-0 run over a 4:41 minutes in the quarter to take a 32-21 at the half. The Irish outscored BC, 22-10, in the quarter behind 12 points from Destinee Walker. BC shot just 17.6 percent in the half, while Notre Dame shot 39 percent.
- Boston College's comeback started in the middle of the third quarter as the Eagles put together a 9-0 run in the final 3:40 to pull within five points, 43-37. The run was capped off by a three-pointer at the buzzer by Cameron Swartz, the first three-pointer of the game for BC.
- Marnelle Garraud opened up the fourth quarter with a three-pointer and the Eagles were down just three points, 43-40. A Georgia Pineau layup cut the lead to one point as BC's run was 14-0 over the last six minutes. Emma Guy gave BC its first lead since the first quarter on a free throw with 7:49 to play. The lead grew to five points behind a layup by Makayla Dickens and Guy with 5:47 left.
- Notre Dame finally stopped a 20-0 Eagles run on a jumper by Marta Sniezek at 5:03. The Irish took the lead with 2:07 to play on a three-pointer from Walker. A Pineau free throw cut the Irish lead to on, 53-52.
- After a missed three from Walker, Pineau hit a jumper at the top of the key for a 54-53 lead. Walker responded with a layup with 1.2 seconds to play as the Irish went up 55-54. Guy then hit the game-winner on a great pass from out of bounds from Pineau for the Eagles 14th win of the season.

GAMENOTES
- Taylor Soule tallied her seventh double-double of the season (20 points, 10 boards).
- This was the first game this season that BC was behind at the half and pulled out a victory.
- BC is now 4-1 in the last five games with wins at No. 14 FSU, vs. Wake Forest, at Clemson and vs. Notre Dame. In the five game run, Emma Guy is shooting 68 percent from the floor, while averaging 20 points and eight rebounds in the five games. Sophomore Makayla Dickens is averaging 6.2 rebounds and 5.6 assists in the five games.
- The seven wins ties the program record for most ACC wins in a single season. The last time BC won seven ACC games was in the 2007-08 and 2008-09 seasons. In both seasons, Boston College went 7-7 and finished tied for fifth in the ACC.
- Boston College had a 52-40 edge on the boards. It was the 15th time this season BC has won the battle inside the paint.
