Pitt Holds Off Eagles
October 08, 2020 | Women's Soccer
Sam Smith had one goal and two assists and Jenna Bike and Mia Karras each found the back of the net once but it wouldn’t be enough as Pitt held off the Boston College women’s soccer team for a 4-3 win on Thursday night at Ambrose Urbanic Field.
Pitt opened the scoring in the sixth minute but the Eagles responded minutes later with two unanswered goals to take a 2-1 lead into the half. The Panthers then opened the second half with two unanswered scores to take a 3-2 lead in the 61st minute. Bike's first goal in over two years pulled the Eagles even in the 73rd minute but Anna Rico answered for Pitt with the eventual game-winner just 13 seconds later.

Pittsburgh, Pa. | Ambrose Urbanic Field
HOW IT HAPPENED
- 6' | On a penalty kick, Amanda West used her right foot to place a low shot inside the right post and past the outstretched hands of Allie Augur, who had guessed correctly.
- 10' | Emily Knous lofted a ball into the box, with a Pitt defender then heading it straight up. The ball landed untouched in between three players and trickled towards the left post where Smith charged and slotted home with a left foot.
- 17' | Laura Gouvin's corner kick found its way towards the center of the 18-yard box, allowing Smith to run onto it and head it back towards the near right post where Karras touched it in with her foot.
- 55' | West collected a ball off of a clearance, dribbled into the box and touched the ball back to her left before loft it with her left foot past a charging Augur.
- 61' | Off of a free kick from 25 yards out, Kate McCay served a ball on the ground with Emily Yaple timing her run to deflect the ball high and under the crossbar.
- 73' | Alison Heckman stripped the ball from a Panther about 35 yards out from goal and then started a counter by finding Smith cutting into the box. Smith one-touched it towards the center for Bike, who's sliding flick snuck inside the right post.
- 74' | From 20 yards out on the right side of the box, Anna Rico curled a long and high shot under the crossbar.
