No. 5 Eagles Storm Back to Beat No. 13 UMass Lowell 3-2

LOWELL, Mass. – Fifth-ranked Boston College stormed back from an early 2-0 deficit to beat No. 13 UMass Lowell 3-2 in Hockey East action on Friday night at Tsongas Center.
Logan Hutsko's team-high 11th goal at 3:42 of the third period gave the Eagles their first and only lead for the eventual game-winner.
BC picked up its first win in Lowell since October of 2012 and improved to 12-1-0 in its last 13 games. Boston College moved to 14-5-0 (8-3-0 HEA) on the year, while the River Hawks dropped to 12-6-4 (6-3-3 HEA).
UMass Lowell struck twice in the first 71 seconds of the contest, but goals from Marc McLaughlin (3) and Alex Newhook (8) knotted the score in the second.
McLaughlin's tally came shorthanded, tying BC with Bentley for the NCAA lead in shorthanded goals with six. The Eagles closed the night a perfect 4-for-4 on the penalty kill, improving to 22-for-23 since the beginning of December (95.7%).
Spencer Knight shut the door on Lowell for the final 58 minutes of regulation and finished the night with 34 saves for his 13th victory.

1st 0:36, UML Goal (0-1) • Following an unfortunate bounce off the end boards, Carl Berglund quickly fired the puck glove side on Knight from the edge of the crease to open the scoring.
1st 1:11, UML Goal (0-2) • Andre Lee picked off a clearing attempt and found Charlie Levesque open in the low slot as the junior tucked a backhand through Knight's five-hole to double Lowell's lead.
2nd 11:04, BC Goal (1-2) • McLaughlin lifted a clearance out of the defensive zone to spring Greco on a breakaway. The senior was denied low by Tyler Wall, but McLaughlin followed the play and punched the rebound inside the right post.
2nd 15:50, BC Goal (2-2) • Immediately after a successful penalty kill, Newhook deked his way into the high slot 1-on-3 and ripped a shot high glove side to beat Wall and tie the game.
3rd 3:42, BC Goal (3-2) • David Cotton cleared the puck around the left wing boards and Hutsko engaged in a foot race with a Lowell defenseman. Hutsko leaned in to one-hand the puck to his forehand and shoveled it short side on Wall.
