New Jersey native comes to the Heights from the Seattle Seahawks
CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College head football coach Jeff Hafley announced the hiring of Steve Shimko as tight ends coach. Shimko comes to the Heights after spending two seasons with the Seattle Seahawks as assistant quarterbacks coach.
"Steve's background as a college offensive coordinator and NFL coach brings terrific experience and expertise to our coaching staff," said Hafley. "He is a very positive, energetic and detailed teacher of the game. We are thrilled to welcome Steve to the Heights."
The New Jersey native helped tutor Russell Wilson as he was named to the Pro Football Writers Association All-NFL team for the first time in 2019. Wilson finished the season throwing for 4,110 yards and 31 touchdowns with just five interceptions. He had a passer rating of 106.3 in leading the Seahawks to the NFL Divisional Playoffs.
Shimko joined Seattle after two seasons (2016-17) as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Garden City (Kan.) Community College where he won the NJACC National Championship in his first season.
Prior to Garden City, he spent one season each at the University of Georgia (2015), Western Michigan (2014) and his alma mater, Rutgers (2013).
Shimko played quarterback at Rutgers but a shoulder injury cut short his career and under NCAA rules, became a student assistant under head coach Greg Schiano until graduating with a degree in criminal justice & labor relations.
